Every lab runs on a server you reach over SSH. You need nothing but a terminal and an internet connection.
What you need
- macOS or Linux: the Terminal app. SSH is built in.
- Windows 10 or 11: Windows Terminal or PowerShell. The OpenSSH client is built in.
- Outgoing connections to port
12869allowed. Some company networks block it; if the connection hangs, try another network.
Your login details
After you book a session, you get your username, password and SSH command by email. They come with the booking confirmation or in a separate email before your slot begins.
The login only works during your reserved slot. We do not store your password, so keep the email.
Connect
At the start of your slot, run the command from the email. It looks like this:
ssh -p 12869 lab-42@handsonlabs.route2open.com
On your first connection SSH asks whether to trust the server: type yes. Then enter the password from the email; the terminal shows nothing as you type.
Once you are in, a selection screen lists the module’s exercises. Pick the lab you want to work on.
Hints
Permission denied: check that your slot has started and that you copied the password without spaces.Connection timed out: port12869is probably blocked on your network.- Still stuck? Write to support@route2open.com with your booking number.
